becoming the leading mine to work for by creating a culture of safety and inclusion for our staff so that they can achieve their personal goals. Keeping the land we work on and the people who make this mine operational in mind, we are raising the standards of the mining industry.
To ethically & sustainably power progress for future generations with our community at the heart of everything we do.
The original mine, the Browning, was opened in 1881 and operated intermittently until the late 1930s. CONSOL acquired a 50 percent interest in the Emery reserve from the Kemmerer Coal Company in 1974. Through that agreement, CONSOL was assigned a lease interest in all leased and deeded coal properties held by Kemmerer. Pittsburg & Midway Coal Company (P & M), successor of the Kemmerer control, sold their complete interest to CONSOL in March of 1993. A new portal and surface facility was developed north of the old Emery portal in 2002.
In 2015 the mine was purchased by Bronco Utah Operations, LLC with the help of Dan Baker, former President & CEO, because of the high quality of coal and a new portal was opened to access untouched coal reserves.
The Emery Mine is a single seam drift entry, underground operation located in Emery County, Utah, approximately 200 miles south-southeast of Salt Lake City, near the small town of Emery. Bronco Utah Operations, LLC currently controls approximately 30 million tons of recoverable reserves within or adjacent to the Emery Mine State permit and approved logical mining unit (LMU). Control of the coal is through deed and lease included in three areas, Emery mine proper, I seam expansion potential to the south of the Emery mine permit and controlled and permitted reserves located along Ivy Creek to the south (Hidden Valley) with potential access to a contiguous mine block with a field potential of over 90 million tons. Coal production is marketed on a raw basis as a high-volatile, low sulfur steam coal with an average heating content typically exceeding 12,200 BTU.
