Safety Practices

Safety is our number one priority. Our CEO, Jon Hale, has set this precedent and we all follow this same mandate. The coal mining industry has become exponentially safer over the past 10 years.

Our miners are required to have personal protective equipment (PPE), self contained self rescuers (SCSR), and proximity detectors to assist with awareness when around heavy machinery.  By way of example, SCSRs provide approximately one hour of oxygen in the case of a thermal event so that miners can put them on and exit the mine with breathable air. Our miners also wear tracking devices so that they can be tracked quickly and efficiently in the event of an emergency.  They also have a dedicated team of communication operators to locate and communicate while underground or on the surface.

We utilize anemometers. This tool measures air, measures how much velocity there is going towards faces and entries for our miners. They make sure our crews have enough air to mine with and to keep your miners out of the dust. Our multi gas detectors are used to make sure the air is clean and safe for all miners.

In addition to the tools above, we also utilize proximity detectors. It's worn by all miners in the production section. If a miner gets too close to the machine, then it'll actually shut the machine down so it can't move. Furthermore, there are also roof control and ventilation plans. Our roof and ventilation plan execution are much more thorough and safer compared to early mining.

Our goal here at Bronco Mine is for everyone to make safety the number one priority. Our organization wants everyone, first and foremost, to take safety seriously. Not just here at work, but at home too. “Because if they're taking safety seriously, they're going to take that underground into the mine. And that could possibly save a life or spare an injury for somebody else that's going underground.”

Regulatory Compliance

The coal industry is a highly regulated industry and we are committed to adhering to all federal, state, and local regulations.  We collaborate with all regulatory agencies as part of our commitment to safety and integrity.
